A good question during my Outrage Fatigue

How do you relax?

My brother called me yesterday to encourage me to write to Faith Leaders.

“Anyone of any faith should be outraged!” he said. (Not a direct quote, but something to that nature.

The USA military destroyed a boat in international waters off the coasts of Venezuela. Everything was obliterated: the boat, the people, the cargo.

“It happened a while ago,” I said.

“Why am I just hearing about it now?”

We went on to discuss what news we consume. I’m mostly a reader or various news sources. He’s tuned out watching the news because it’s just too upsetting. That’s probably why he didn’t hear about the drone attack on a ship that maybe had drugs, maybe had eleven gang members. We don’t know because the evidence is either destroyed or remains unknown to the public.

I’m suffering from Outrage Fatigue. It seems like every day it’s something new. I don’t know which way to turn; what action to take; what’s most important. The attack seems like something that happened last week. It was just four days ago.

I attend meetings, I write postcards, I share information. Oh my, yes. I do feel outraged.

So how do I relax? Oooooh such a good question.

I think I’ll hop on my bike and coast down a hill.

I might even stand up on the pedals and extend one foot behind me like I’m riding a circus horse.

When I get back, I might read a book about complex people in a made up world who are trying to live a life full of love and kindness. Do you have a book like that to recommend?
