Good News Monday #14: Gardens, Mosaics, and Phone Calls

In spite of an emotionally rough week and up-to-here political exasperation, this Monday I feel hopeful. Maybe it’s the warmer weather, maybe it’s the sunshine. Maybe it’s just because I’m finding delight in the little things, like melting bites of Cadbury Egg in my mouth.

On a personal level: A tilled garden ready for seeds

Last week, Loved-One and I got the window garden planted with the heirloom seeds we got for Christmas. Two different tomato plants, two different cabbages, and broccoli pushed out of the soil and peek toward the window. I wonder what will sprout tomorrow.

Outside, thee ground is till, the robins bathe at the pond, and we even saw some wood ducks trying to wriggle into a squirrel hole. How do ducks manage in a tree, we wondered. Webbed feet with spikes?

It sounds like a jungle out there. I’m so lucky to live in a migratory path.

On a Local Level: Art Connections

You’ve probably seen teachers connecting with students through sidewalk chalk greetings.

A local ten-year-old decided to start a mosaic art project with chalk and masking tape. Her siblings joined in and before they completed the squares in front of their house, the neighbors got in on the fun. Before long, other kids in the neighborhood jumped on the bandwagon.

Can you imagine how much fun it would be if the project just kept going all around the city?

Such a cheerful idea. Plus, the neighbors got to connect at a socially acceptable distance.

On a National Level: Mickey Mouse

Until the end of the month, you can call the Mickey Mouse Hotline and get a bedtime message with the Disney Bedtime Hotline. Just dial 1-877-7-MICKEY and let the operator know which character you want to help you get to sleep. Will it be Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck or Goofy?

These were little bits of delight for me this week. Sometimes it’s the little things, don’t you think. What delights you this week?
