Monday Delights #23: Ink blots, clairvoyance, swimming

Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” Awww.. Who doesn’t love a little kitten? Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other and these two surely warmed my heartstrings. June is also National Adopt a Cat Month, so guess what photos I’m picking for a bit of Kawaii this month?

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

June is Pride Month. June because that’s when the Stonewall Riots took place in 1969. The Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969. The bar had a reputation for being friendly to the LGBT community.

June is a time for remembering those who paved the way for the LGBTQA community and who continue to do so. It’s a time for education and breaking down barriers, too.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

Here’s a few things that delighted me this week:

Inkblots: I know this is a little silly, but silly things delight me. I have three lovely fountain pens and several bottles of ink. Keeping the ink flowing is much more challenging than with a regular old ballpoint pen. Still, the act of cleaning the pen tips is quite meditative, and as the fresh ink migrates across a clean paper towel, well, it’s just delightful.

“On this Day” photo video: Siri, know how to delight me. At a seemingly random interval, a photo montage pops up on my phone: “On this day.” It might be a birthday five years ago; it might be a camping trip; it could be a “Dozing with the Dinos.” I never know which memory Siri will set to his appropriately chosen mood music. (Yes, my Siri is a man, an Australian man. He seems a lot less judgemental than the default American woman’s voice.) I’m sure there’s an algorithm for this little clairvoyant delight. I prefer to believe it’s a little blessing from the ethernet.

Swimming in the Lake: I learned to swim in a lake. I took my children to the lake when they were little. A lake is a short one-mile walk from my house. So, of course, it’s a delight when the grandchildren come to swim with me. Okay, maybe we do a lot more floating than swimming.

The more I look for things that delight me, the more I seem delighted. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.

I hope you find delight this week.

I know it makes me feel better to jot down a few things to remind myself how much delight I have in my life.

This Friday, my State officially enters Phase 5, “Illinois Restored.” Although there will be some restrictions still in place, we will almost return to normal.

It’s not so positive for some of my neighboring states, so please be safe and mindful of all local restrictions.

We’re in the final battles. At least in this country. We have a ways to go for the world to get there.

I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.

Please share. Chances are you will delight me!
