What delights you this week? Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” This baby calf reminds me of my childhood, 4-H, and the county fair. This morning’s newspaper reported on two cows on the loose. Another memory: early morning cow-chases, hoping to get the cows corralled before the school bus arrived. Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other. It’s August and the shadows get longer every day.
Today is Book Lovers Day. So, I’ll take this moment to encourage you to hop over to Amazon and order A Ship of Pearl or The Fable of Little Tzurie. I know you will love these books.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Let’s roll up our sleeves, check our vaccination records, and encourage others to do the same thing. CDC.gov has all kinds of tools to help with your assessment for COVID-19 and beyond.
Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.
As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.
CoCo and I have a calendar of “summer days.” August 4 is “Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.” I think I’ll whip up a batch this afternoon. Mr. N plans to visit. I can surprise him.
Here’s a few things that delighted me this week:
Thunderstorms: Right this very moment, the sky is dark, the rain patters against my window, and lightning streaks through the sky, followed by the rumble of thunder. It’s beautiful, and strangely peaceful at the same time. And afterwards, oh afterwards, the birds sing in full force and the air smells green.
Cheery Tomatoes: Several years ago, I added ‘cheery,’ instead of cherry tomatoes to our shopping list. Wait a second… They are pretty cheery don’t you think? Especially, picked straight from the garden and popped into my mouth sunshine warmed. Here’s a delightful photo of our abundance.
The history of sit-com: Loved-One and I watched an episode this week and decided to record the series. We had so much fun laughing at the clips and sharing which shows we watched growing up. “I loved Family Ties,” he never missed an episode of “All in the Family.” We both loved “The Andy Griffith Show.” I’m sure the current very popular “Ted Lasso” is a reincarnation of “Gomer Pile.” Loved-One is a little younger than me, so he doesn’t remember “The Doby Gillis Show,” or Manard G. Crebbs, but he does remember “Gilligan’s Island and the Skipper’s Little Buddy. What’s your favourite sit-com? I can’t pick a favourite.
I never watched the British version of “The Office,” but this clip made me laugh out loud.
The more I look for things that delight me, the more I find delights. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.

I know it makes me feel better to jot down a few things to remind myself how much delight I have in my life.
Vaccination rates are finally rose to 63% this weekendof those eligible for vaccination in my state has barely moved. School re-instated a mask mandate. Almost 100% deaths in the country due to Covid-19 are unvaccinated people. The epidemic is now about the unvaccinated.

If you were hesitant, I hope you find reasons to put your fear aside in favor of protecting yourself and others. Some people are too young, others are immune-compromised or have other medical issues. Let’s be neighborly and protect those that can’t get vaccinated.
I am surprised to learn that the county where I live has 83% of ICU beds occupied. The CDC warns that the Delta varient is much more contagious and may lead to more severe illness.
