Monday Delights #36: edges, tomatoes, (old) men

What delights you this week? Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other. I found more puppies to put a smile on my face. Do they delight you, too?

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

Today is “defy superstition day.”

Did you know that black cats are least likely to be adopted because of superstition? I learned that from the owner of Cole and Marmalade. (Back in my photojournalist day, I got a chance to get to know this man’s wonderful cat rescue efforts.)

Here’s a few other things that delight me this week:

Fresh tomatoes: This year we have cherry tomatoes, currant tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and some volunteers that seem to be a mix of all of these. Tomatoes are my favorite fresh fruit. Today I plan to make some fresh sauce to go with my abundance of spaghetti squash.

Loved-One and one of my many helpers.

Sharp edges: I know it’s a silly thing. I’m delighted by the way the lawn looks after I complete the edging. It’s like the feel of Loved-One’s neck after a haircut. Or Sargent Carter’s crewcut; “every hair standing at attention,” as I remember Gomer Pile once saying.

Old men: My friend Diane posted a picture of her husband wearing his birthday suit. Or was that a striped onesie that she got him for his birthday? I’ll let your mind’s eye do the imagining. At any rate, absolute delight.

While Diane’s husband paraded in his birthday suit, Loved-One spent the weekend cutting up a tree. This morning he had me feel his bicep. Yup, muscles are popping. I sent a text to the grandkids, hoping for help. Instead, I got comments on his attire. Particularly the hat and orange Crocks. All day, I paraphrased that old Bob Dylan song:

Old man. Look at my life.

I was a lot like you are.

Not quite Bob Dylan

The more I look for things that delight me, the more I find delights. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.

I hope you find delight this week.

At last, vaccination rates moved in my state to 67%, but last week, my county reported 101% of ICU beds capacity. Yikes! Because of the low rate of vaccination and high rate of infections, the Governor re-instated a mask mandate for all indoor events.

If you waited, I hope the recent approval of the Pfizer vaccine helps allay your fears.

Some people are too young, others are immune-compromised or have other medical issues. Let’s be neighborly and protect those that can’t get vaccinated.

I really look forward to the day that I no longer feel the need to update readers on this subject!

I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.

What did it for you this week? Please share in the comments. Chances are you will delight me!
