Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.
Today is Prophet Al Kadir Day. I only know that because I asked Siri, “What holiday is it today?” Yes, Siri does delight me. Especially her/his jokes. (My Siri is an Australian man.)
As a reminder, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.
The lambs are a bit of “Kawaii,” because, you know, just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other?
Here’s a few other things that delighted me this week:
- A male cardinal on the bare forsythia: Is it the color contrast or are cardinals really brighter in the winter? Sometimes there are three, four, even six cardinals waiting, evenly spaced in the forsythia, while another eats at the feeder. What internal etiquette are they following I wonder? There’s room for more than one on the feeder. Yet, one leaves and another takes it place. Politeness really is the lubricant of society. Even bird society.
- Pink sky against a snow covered morning: I know a pink sky is supposed to be a warning of turbulent weather, and it did, indeed get so windy as the day progressed. A little blessing to start the day helps the misfortunes seem less so. Don’t you agree?
- Loved-One excited about microorganisms: “Turn on the radio! You’re going to love this.” I did. Microorganisms regenerating the earth; eating contaminants; turning carbon dioxide into oxygen and carbon; making even deserts into fertile soil. I’m not sure which delighted me more, the information or Loved-One’s excitement.
- A Cloudless Crayola blue sky: Although I love clouds, there’s something about a blue-blue sky that warms my heart. Despite how bright a cheery the sky looks, it usually means it’s a whole lot colder outside. It is. Still, I can enjoy the beauty from a nice warm fireside.
- The sound of a racket wrench: Mr. B bought his first home and we went over to help him settle in. That click-grrrinch, click-grrrinch of the racket wrench made me smile as we put his bed together.
- A walnut shell left on the railing: This is outside my bedroom. I imagine the insolent squirrel sitting there, picking the nut clean, and refusing to clean up after himself. Where are his manners? He should sit under the forsythia for a while and learn a thing or two.
I hope you find delight this week. I know it made me feel better.
