Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.
This is Black History Month. Until Black History is just part of regular old history, each week I’ll add a snippet or quote. Today’s quote is from Susan L. Taylor.

Of course, it takes a lot of work for our beliefs to become reality.
As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.
This cute little chick is a bit of “Kawaii,” because, you know, just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other? Awww…
Here’s a few other things that delighted me this week:
- Sunshine on snow: It’s so darned cold out that it’s a bit difficult to see delight in being outdoors. Yet, it really does look like a glitter-covered Christmas card out there. It’s almost like a little gift to compensate for the bitterness of the temperature.
- Paper wrapped toilet paper: Last year, or was it longer ago than that, I vowed to use less plastic. As a result, I started getting toilet paper from “Who Gives a Crap.” Each roll comes wrapped in paper, so pretty I can use it as wrapping paper. At the bottom of the case, is a roll wrapped in bright red, with a reminder of pending catastrophe. I’m still smiling at the potty humor.
- Juncos at the feeder: Little fluff balls of black feathers hopping under the feeder make me smile. And I just watched a YouTube video about how birds stay warm in our northern climes. Ever wonder how birds keep those bare feet of theirs warm? Somebody did.
- Crooked icicles: The sun melts, the wind freezes, the sun melts, the wind freezes. Mother Nature is such an artist!
- Clean countertops: It’s a simple thing, but it so warms my heart. Especially when I’m not the one who cleaned them.
I hope you find delight this week. I know it made me feel better.
Until we get our vaccination numbers up, don’t forget to stay safe. I get my first dose tomorrow. But, it’s not over yet.
We will win this war. We just need to remain diligent.
In the meantime, don’t forget to practice the four Ws:
- Wear a mask;
- Watch your distance,
- Wash your hands, and
- Work together.
