NaNoWriMo 2021 – Week 1

November is National Novel Writing Month. The challenge is to write 1,000 words every day. Doing so gets you will be well on your way to completing a novel. I take up the challenge every year. But, in typical Adela fashion, I change the goals to meet me.

I have no trouble writing 1,000 words a day.

I can almost do that with my eyes closed. Literally. That’s how I taught myself to write unconsciously using a keyboard and screen instead of a pen and paper. I just set my fingers on the home row, close my eyes and let my imagination run wild.

This year, my novel is in a different place. It already has over 66,000 words. Now I must bolster the themes, trim the dead weight, and tighten up the story.

Plus, I want to get The Fellas’ book, Growing North, published before the end of the month. And The Fable of Little Tzurie should come out in hardcover before Black Friday. I must decide on a cover.

So, here are my NaNoWriMo2021 goals:

  • Growing North by John Bruhn and Jim Julison published;
  • The Fable of Little Tzurie by Adela Crandell Durkee, available in hard cover;
  • May His Tribe Increase by Adela Crandell Durkee, polished and ready for my editor.

SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Based.

I’ll be stretching myself. And, I’m confident I can do it.

Here’s the cover that Jim created for their book. If you remember what teen years were like during the 1970s, you’ll love their adventure.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo this year?

Have you done so in the past? How successful were you? Do you stick to the game plan or modify to suit what’s right for you?
