Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock: 2017-3

My week oscillated between sad and glad.  As I watch the unfolding of the political climate around me, I feel sad because the energy is not giving way to productivity.  Instead, tweets mire me in insults and nastiness.  Sad!  Still, I am buoyed by thoughtful people reminding us that kindness, openness, and thoughtful discussion are our best weapons. I went to the movies because, well, because I was still Sad!  Next I remembered that soon I will have a whole week with CeCe’s kids while she goes on a cruise with her hubby.  Glad!

This weekend, I reminded myself that I have so many things for which to give thanks:

Some shameless self-promotion while I hobnob with award-winner, Tiffany.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]  I attended the Chicago Writers Association awards night at “The Book Cellar,” where I met a couple of the authors who won awards and honors. I met Christine Maul Rice who wrote Swarm Theory. I love this novel about the Flint, Michigan area where I grew up.  Although she doesn’t name Grand Blanc, I’m pretty sure I recognize the scar on Big Boy.  I re-connected with Tiffany Gohler, author of A Bitter Pill to Swallow (winner of non-traditionally published fiction.) Gint Aris, author of The Fugue explained that his novel weave the musical meaning of fugue with the mental fugue state together throughout his novel.  Christine and Gint both received honorable mentions.  They were all so friendly and encouraging.  And look, I got some selfies with them.  (Okay, Loved-One took the photo of me and Tiffany.)

A selfie with Gint. He’s so sweet. Can’t wait to read The Fugue.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] It’s awards season for movies.  I’m on my annual mad dash to see those nominated.  I’m using the Golden Globes as my guide, so I can spread things out a bit.  I saw La La Land and Sing. Both very uplifting and I left the theatre not feeling sad.  I’m happy that Tuesday is $5 tics all day long and half-off popcorn.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] I started a new diet with lots of bread and potatoes in it.  I feel great and I feel happy every time I eat.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] I didn’t have to get in the car and drive to work.  Just minutes before I normally put my coat on, I got the call.  It’s too icy.  I looked out the window and two cars and a salt truck were spinning their wheels. Yes, it is too icy.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] My Christmas decorations are almost all put away.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] My flute is polished to a high shine and I have a lesson tonight.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] I have a library event for A Ship of Pearl coming soon.

[icon name=”heart” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] I stayed in my PJs almost all day Saturday, just because I could, not because I was sick.

What’s on your gratitude list this week?  Please leave a comment because I just heard the first step toward repealing ACA passed in a midnight session. Sad again. You wonderful readers, almost always keep me in that happy place.
