Another Monday, another Mystery Movie.
We never know what we’re going to see, only the rating and the length. I’m not so sure about Christy as a compelling story. Lots of gaps in the character development. I mean, Christy’s brother and father might as well be mannequins. I’m not sure they had more than three lines between them, and one of those was just, “Mom. Enough.” What was going on with them? And why, when Christy’s mother preached subservience to men, did they acquiesce? Still…
What a performance by Sidney Sweeney!
Yes, that really is Sydney Sweeney. I kept looking at those calves. How did they digitally change that lithe model into a powerhouse boxer? I really didn’t believe she could look like that. But, guess what? She really did transform her body by working her butt off. Read how she did it here.
All that work added over 30 pounds, and change in her wardrobe. “My body was completely different. I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy!” Still, the payoff was worth it: “I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Man-o-Man! Sydney can really throw a punch, too.
Christy is a good reminder of where the LGBTQ+ community was not so very long ago. It’s also a reminder of where women were. And it reminds us how far families, friends, and the community at large have come.
Mystery Movies are a lot of fun and always a surprise.

Okay. Full, disclosure. Christy is a good story, but one that can wait for streaming. Sorry Sydney Sweeney. It just wasn’t that good.
