I’m so lucky.
As I drove an hour and a half to a Cross Country meet yesterday afternoon, my thoughts eddied around the many little ways I am blessed. Here are just ten that percolated up, in no particular order.
- I can drive an hour and a half to watch a 7th grader run 2 miles and come in 10th place.
I can just get in the car and do it. I don’t have to think whether I can afford the gas, or if the car will make it, or if I have the stamina, or if I can find my way. I am rewarded with a warm hug and a piece of pizza.- I have enough good food that I must watch my calorie intake.
I have a garden with surplus for freezing and canning. I can purchase nutritious food, and trust its safety. I have more choices than I know what to do with.- I have four children who live an easy drive away, and I see them often.
My children still value my opinion. My twelve grandchildren eagerly share their news.- All of my joints work without pain.
I go for bicycle rides, long walks over hilly terrain, zumba dance, and practice yoga. Some mild muscle aches, yes, but no different than when I was younger.- I have a faith family that knows me well enough to miss me when I’m absent on Sunday.
Hugs, conversation, and encouragement makes me want to stay well past the final blessing.- Loved-One still makes me laugh with abandon, still makes my toes curl, and still surprises me.
- I have five sisters and three brothers whose bond create a safety net of love.
I can call any one of my sibs just to catch-up, or to ask for help. I know they are there if I need them. I am happy to be there for them, too. It’s the way it’s supposed to be.- I never get bored.
I always have more to do. I’ve never been in a job absent of challenges. I love challenges. I have always found meaning in my work.- I have neighbors that wave hello as they go by.
We stop and chat. We watch over each other, help each other, and rely on each other- I still have my mother to talk to; she still gives great advice.
She is the best friend I could ever ask for. She’s wise, she’s in-tune, she’s witty, she’s with it. Who would have guessed it?
I live in abundance.
How about you?
