Fifty Day: Chuck

I started a challenge to write a story that is exactly 50 words! Thank you, Boy with a Hat. Not that he set up a formal challenge, but it was his idea. And his writing is worth checking out. So please click the link and find out what he’s up to.

So how to proceed? For the most part, I’m using my character inspiration, Dorothy Astoria’s The Name Book. I opened the pages looking for a name that resonated with maleness. Today Chuch called to me. I immediately thought of my father-in-law. He did wear a pocket protector to work, but that’s where the similarities end.

Chuck clipped his pen to the shirt pocket over his heart. His bioptic lenses magnified the bruise under his eye.

“Anything you want to talk about?”

Chuck’s head shook a silent no to his boss. Blinking, he nudged his spectacles tighter between his eyes. If wishes were horses…, he thought.

Wednesdays are super-fun and challenging because paring down to 50 words is really challenging. I wonder what happened to Chuck’s eye. Is he sick? Or did he get in a fight? What do you think?

It’ll be fun to find out what you think.

I’m letting my novel rest a bit while I got through some Scrivener tutorials. Then a nap. I’m still recovering from a cold-type virus I picked up on vacation.

Wednesdays will be my Fifty day at least on and off again. But then, what’s happening to Ray and Marla? They’re calling me to Friday writing. Geesh! The more I write, the more things in my head want to leak out my fingers and onto the page.
