A writing prompt: Bleary

Tomorrow I’m off to Printer’s Row Lit Fest in Chicago. Today I’m committed to editing a chapter in my latest novel with the working title MAY HIS TRIBE INCREASE.

This morning, I’m starting out with a little fun. A writing prompt from Ragtag Community: Bleary. I’m sticking with my now traditional challenge of a fifty-word story. Exactly 50, no more, no less.

Perspectives

It’s a bleary day.” Irene scrapes butter off her toast.

“Don’t you mean dreary?” Otto’s newspaper rustles judgment.

“It’s bleary.” Irene gestures outside.

“Dreary.” Otto’s newspaper snaps authority.

Tilly trills from her breakfast stool, eyes wide. “The mist makes everything bleary.  That’s dreary.”

A quarrel evaporates, to their child’s delight.
