Monday Delights #10: dollhouses, melt-off, Dolly Parton, Zombie apocalypse

This adorable baby is a bit of “Kawaii,” because, you know, just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other? Awww… who doesn’t adore a baby elephant?!

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

This is Women’s History Month. In 1911, it was just a day (March 8.) Now it’s a whole month.. Today’s quote is from Audrey Hepburn.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

Here’s a few other things that delighted me this week:

Queen Mary’s Dollhouse: In my fantasy world I have a fancy dollhouse that I decorate at a fraction of the cost of decorating a whole house. Plus, there’s no heaving lifting or straining. My imaginary dollhouse always stays pretty and everything is always in its place. No clutter of junk mail, no last-nights dishes to wash.

So when I saw this video about the restoration of Queen Mary’s dollhouse, my heart delighted. Plus, I really liked the historian saying some of the pieces “are very fiddly to pick up,” in her very British accent. What? It has full running water and electric lights!

Green beneath the snow: I smiled when I saw my irises pushing up through the snow. I planned to take a photo, but I was too slow, and too lazy to put on boots to crunch through the remaining snow. So I just adored them from the window. Days later I saw the tips of crocuses pushing through detritus cover. I pulled back the dead leaves. I swear I heard a sign of relief from these little babes.

Dolly Parton revamps “Jolene.” I smile just thinking about this one. “Cuz once you’re dead, it’s a bit too late.”

  • CDC prepares us for a zombie apocalypse: Yes, the CDC can have a sense of humor. In 2011 they started a tongue-in-cheek disaster preparedness campaign inspired by the popular TV show, “The Walking Dead.” It turns out you need the same things for a snowstorm, a hurricane, a solar flare, and a zombie apocalypse. Check out how it all began here.

I’m happy to know that CDC is ready to do a full investigation if and when zombies start roaming the neighborhood.

I’m betting you’ll get a kick out of some of the comments, too.

I hope you find delight this week.

I know it makes me feel better to jot down a few things and remind myself how much delight I have in my life.

Even Covid-19 made me smile this week.

“So don’t be a chicken squat. Get out there and get your shot.” – Dolly Parton

We will win this war. We just need to remain diligent. Thanks to the app Citizen, I can track the COVID-19 statistics. My state vaccinated 18.4% of its population. But the cases are rising again. How’s your state doing?

In the meantime, don’t forget to practice the five Ws:

  • Wear a mask;
  • Watch your distance,
  • Wash your hands, and
  • Work together.
  • And Win this war.

How about you? What absolutely filled you with delight this week? Please share. Chances are you will delight me!
