Monday Delights #46: Dogs, Cats, and Me (and a recipe)

What delights you this week? Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” This is Mr. C with the basketball ice cream birthday cake I made him this week. He was a lot more delighted than he looks! Besides Mr. C’s delight, Miss P delighted me by asking if she could come over and bake with me. Absolutely! How about after school pie-baking this week?

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

Today is National Cranberry Relish Day. Oooo… I love cranberry relish. Here’s a photo of some I made. By the way, cranberry relish is super-good on oatmeal or on top of cornmeal muffins. Oh, that just reminded me of two things that delight me.

What is Thanksgiving without the cranberries?

Here’s a few other things that delight me this week:

The neighbors’ border collie: I get such a tickle out of Brandi trying so hard to herd the children, the cars, and the walkers whenever he’s outside. He goes right up to the invisible fence, runs along the edges and begs the unruly to get in line. It’s in his nature. If we’d only cooperate, his purpose in life could be fulfilled. Brandi never gives up.

Cats and their treats: All I need to do is crinkle the wrapper and Sasha and Misha come a-running. They sure have good hearing because it doesn’t matter what part of the house they’re in, they hear the slightest crinkle. Yesterday, I opened a KitKat, which happened to have the same type of wrapper. Sorry girls, this treat is for me.

My recipe notes: Loved-One came home with a big bag of rainbow carrots. He loves carrots. I got out my recipe book. “The fastest way to go through three pounds of carrots,” I noted. It’s true, I’m not as fond of carrots as he is. It’s true. I do love these.

The more I look for things that delight me, the more I find delights. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.
