What delights you this week? Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” I found lots of photos of dogs dressed up in festive costumes, but somehow they seemed a little put out. The cats seemed on top of the world with holiday decorations. As if we humans did it all for them.
Something in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.
Next week is #51, which means I only missed one week. Should I keep it going for 2022? As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.
Today is “National Go Caroling Day.”
My most memorable caroling day happened when I was a kid. My uncles got all my cousins together for caroling at Uncle Merle’s house. He lived on a dirt road where the houses were about 1/4 mile apart. We got in a good, long walk in the cold. My Dad and his brothers were experts at channeling kid-energy.

Here’s a few other things that delight me this week:
A Lego man on a bubble of ice: This little Lego guy is our boy, Isaac. Love-One found him abandoned on the playground and he’s been part of the family ever since. He goes with us on international trips, camping with the grandchildren, and occasionally, we find him exploring the yard. This week, he found a perfect magnifying glass formed by furnace condensation drips. Thank you Isaac for finding something delightful. (Before you pass judgment on us with a Lego boy, remember the Gingerbread Man.)
A silly Santa singing carols: This Santa and the sign he’s embracing delights me this year. I often pose the Santa hanging from the banister or a lamp post. This year he’s singing “Deck the Halls” and hanging on for dear life. A delight to have in the kitchen.

Cats: Why do cats like to climb into boxes, drawers, and other small places? Sasha looks like she thinks I left the wreath out just for her. I almost didn’t have the heart to break it to her. CoCo needed the wreath more. Her little kitten, Luna, discovered how to get the cover off CocCo’s beta fish’s home. So we circumvented Luna’s fishing expedition by putting a wreath around the fishbowl.
The more I look for things that delight me, the more I find delights. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.
On the not-so-delightful side of things, Covid-19 cases are on the rise, followed by an uptick of deaths. We are reconsidering our holiday get-togethers. We both have vaccinations up to date, with boosters in the review mirror. Still, we find that in this little household of two, we have different tolerances for risk. Here’s a link that might help you make decisions. You can drill right down to the county level if you wish.
I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.
