What? This is post #43 of a weekly breather. I do believe I skipped a few weeks. There are 3 weeks left in the year and 52 weeks in a year. That means, hmmm.. 52-46=6. I went six weeks without a breather or a pause.
The weather is warm, my Christmas list is under control, and CoCo got a clean bill or health. That seems like reasons enough to sigh a breath of relief. Here are few more reasons, in no particular order, why I’m smiling this week:
- School Christmas concerts: One for Mr. D last Friday, one for Mr. N on Tuesday, and one for Miss S coming on Sunday. I’m sure there will be more. I love these times to see young families celebrate their talents. Oh, and I am the flute accompanist for two songs At my church concert in early January. We like to keep the Christmas spirit going.
- Personalized calendars for Mom and sibs and another for my kids. I loved collecting and going through the photos of everyone.
- Good Girls’ Revolt: I love this Hulu series. I can remember so much of what the work-force was like back then. I only wish this top-notch series had more than one season.
- Blow-up mattresses with battery operated pumps. We spent the night at Wrestler #2’s after Mr. D’s concert. Our camping mattress is such a convenience. Remember sleeping on sofa-beds, with those uncomfortable bars? Praises to air mattresses.
- Yard work in December. It felt like early fall this past weekend. what a delight!
- Senior Luncheon and singing Christmas carols around the piano.
- Distributing Christmas candy to my two favorite neighbors. And’ the pleasure of just walking over, unannounced for an impromptu visit. I heard millennials are “freaked out” when they hear a doorbell ring. They text their friends when they arrive, so they can be greeted at the door. I feel quaint.
- My newspaper job, which allows me the pleasure of interviewing such interesting people. This week it was participants in the Santa Run.
- The “cloud” and mobile devices that make it possible to write wherever I am. While watching Good Girls’ Revolt, I recalled writing on a portable typewriter. Oh my, it’s so much easier to write now with editing tools, cut&paste; just go stream of conscious and clean it up from there. It really makes me appreciate writers like Nathanial Hawthorne, who wrote with a quill and ink. I bet he spent a lot of time contemplating and composing in his head before a word ever hit paper.
