Sometimes Mother Nature forces us to stop. A winter storm followed by a winter storm did that for me this weekend. I couldn’t make it to Mrs. Wrestler #2’s 40th birthday party, and I was still snowed in for Miss G’s Christmas concert. I am blessed that the Mrs. called with all her Birthday excitement. What a wonderful party she had: old friends and neighbors, family, students, and new friends. The Mrs. lost her sister and her cousins in early adulthood. When asked if she feels depressed about turning 40, she tells people, “No! I’m here. I’m so lucky to be here!” The Mrs. is a good reminder to look at every day as a blessing.
Here’s a few more things that fill me with gratitude:
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]A strong back, heart, and lungs. At 65+ I’m still shoveling the drive and walkway. It’s a drag, and at the same time a joy. Physical work fills me with a sense of accomplishment like no other.
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]Miss E, who came with her boyfriend to borrow our sleds and stay for hot chocolate. I love the enthusiasm of teenagers. Don’t you?
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]Loved-One helping me decorate the plant ledge with Christmas cheer. He climbs the ladder, and I give instructions. What a team.
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Christmas tree ornaments given as gifts. Nearly every ornament was a gift and a reminder of friends and family: Lisa, Justin, Dad, CoCo, Mehmet, Mary, Sharon… Loved-One and I get one decoration a year, perhaps while on a trip: Poland, Sendona, Texas, Pearl, San Francisco, Africa.. I’m still decorating the tree. I like savoring the memories as I go.
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Two silly cats that love to help. Sasha and Misha are under the tree, chasing the tinsel, and sleeping in the ornament boxes.
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Knitting looms and pajama patterns. Yes, it’s time for the annual pajama making. And hats for those too big for pajamas.
[icon name=”bell” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Holiday parties. This week I have two. One for Illinois Writers and one for Quality professionals. Oh my, that reminds me, I better hop over to ASQ1212.com and get the announcement out!
