Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” Awww.. Don’t this ducklings just warm your heart? Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other. July is Social Wellness Month. So let’s do our part in connecting to others and recognizing our interratedness.

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

July is also National Family Reunion Month. In a couple of weeks, my siblings and I will be celebrating the first Magpie Madness.

Our grandparents, my Mom’s Mom and Dad affectionally referred to the nine of us The Magpies. We do like to talk.

Here’s a photo of the nine of us with Mom. It’s been a few years since we were all together.

Here’s a few things that delighted me this week:

Shadows: I suppose it’s a little silly to delight in something so common. This week I realized that I like shadows almost as much as I like clouds. On some days, maybe even more: long morning shadows invite me to linger over coffee. Changing shadows as I walk side-by-side with someone I love, stretching out like time before us. Shadows of early evening promising rest and relief.

Fireworks: There’s nothing like a year without, to make me realize how delightful it is to gather together and ooh and ahhh as the sky lights up. Add a grandson and his girlfriend and good conversation and my cup runneth over.

Silly National Holidays: Did you know that June 1st was Nail Polish Day? How about June 11 as Corn on the Cob Day? A local realtor sent us a list of National Days to enjoy over the summer. Tomorrow, July 6 is World Kissing Day. Look out world, it’s time to pucker up!

The more I look for things that delight me, the more I seem delighted. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.

I hope you find delight this week.

I know it makes me feel better to jot down a few things to remind myself how much delight I have in my life.

Almost 60% of those eligible in my state are now vaccinated. About 50% of Americans are vaccinated. More than 90% of those hospitalized due to Covid-19 are unvaccinated and almost 100% of those now dying of Covid-19 are among the unvacinated.

If you were hesitant, I hope you find reasons to put your fear aside in favor of protecting yourself and others. Some people are too young, others are immune-compromised or have other medical issues. Let’s be neighborly and protect those that can’t get vaccinated.

We’re in the final battles. At least in this country we’re making headway. Still, we have a ways to go for the world to get there.

I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.

Please share what delighted you this week. Chances are you will delight me!
