Monday Delights #34: text, anniversaries, kittens

What delights you this week? Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other.

Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.

As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.

Today is Toasted Marshmallow Day. OOOOhhh! I’m ready for a s’more. Are you?

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Let’s roll up our sleeves, check our vaccination records, and encourage others to do the same thing. CDC.gov has all kinds of tools to help with your assessment of which vaccinations you and your loved ones need. There’s more to vaccination than Covid-19.

Here’s a few things that delight me this week:

Kittens: The little kitten at the top of the page will soon be a surprise birthday gift for CoCo. She is almost all white with grey ears and tail. (The kitten, not CoCo.). Blue eyes on both. I’m filled with delight every time I think about how surprised CoCo will be.

Anniversaries: We celebrated our Silver Anniversary this week! We took a day trip to Pontiac’s Route 66 museum. We talked to a low-paid waitress over breakfast and found out why Grandma’s has a hard time getting help. (spoiler: low tips and sub-minimum wage pay.). We had lunch at a local diner and quickly fell in love with a Horseshoe sandwich: BBQ pork, french fries, and cheesy gravy; yum-yum. We traveled home, stopping at CeCe’s for a visit with some of the grandkids. What a wonderfully delight-filled day.

I think my arms might be too short for selfies!

Surprise texts: A writer friend of mine tweeted that he got an explicit text from a wrong number. That flooded my mind with questions and reactions. Most of them decidedly not delightful. That very day, I got this picture texted to me with a message that he thinks of me (and Loved-One) every day as he passes the sign. What a delight!

The more I look for things that delight me, the more I find delights. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.

I hope you find delight this week.

At last, vaccination rates moved in my state. We reached almost at 66%. Because of the low rate of vaccination and high rate of infections, the Governor re-instated a mask mandate for all indoor events.

If you waited, I hope the recent approval of the Pfizer vaccine helps allay your fears.

I am shocked to learn that the county where I live has 97% of ICU beds occupied. Yikes! I sent an email to our local paper asking why this number is not being reported. The very next day, they began sharing ICU capacity data.

Some people are too young, others are immune-compromised or have other medical issues. Let’s be neighborly and protect those that can’t get vaccinated.

I really look forward to the day that I no longer feel the need to update readers on this subject!

I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.
