Mystery Movie Night

Amid all the real-life chaos and suspense around me, sometimes I just need to sit on the edge of my seat and surround myself with something fictional. That’s where Mystery Movie Night comes in.

Have you ever gone to a movie without knowing anything about it? Not even the title?

The perks of a Regal Theatre membership is Mystery Movie Night. We don’t know what movie we’ll see; not even the genre. But, we get tickets for $5 and a $7 beverage and popcorn deal for at 7PM Monday movie. For that, we get a sneak peak at a movie that will premiere sometime in the next month or so.

“I’ll be okay as long as it’s not a horror film,” I said this first time we went.

Of course that’s exactly what we got: Talk to Me. Well, at least it wasn’t a blood and gore type.

The next one was Grand Turismo. A fun movie based on a true story of a video gamer who became a Formula One race car driver.

Some have been total bombs. Others, like Jurassic Park, a delightful surprise.

This week we saw Relay.

Yikes! Bleeker Street flashed on the screen. I started planning our exist strategy.

Oh my goodness. We both loved this movie. Loved One and I were on the edge of our seats for the whole time. I’m not going to give anything away, except to tell you that the title comes from a method for the deaf community to make telephone calls. And, it was not a horror movie.

I woke up several times last night with this movie on my mind. I’m still thinking about Relay this morning.

I’m particularly impressed with the tightness of the story. Every bit of the story is a necessary part. From the first scene to the last; nothing is gratuitous. You’ll love this movie. Especially if you love good writing.

Now back to the suspense of real life!

Oh yeah, and as I wrote this post, I found that Bleeker Street isn’t just known for horror movies. Coming soon is Bone Lake (definitely horror) and Spinal Tap II (far from horror.) I gotta tell my son about that last one. It looks hilarious.
