Yes, I’m a Catholic. A Progressive Catholic. I am a Cradle Catholic. I never went Catholic School. I learned my catechism on Saturday mornings, bused in from the neighboring parish. I’m more than a Sunday Catholic. I love my Church. I cheered when I read Pope Francis’s interview,
I don’t get my panties in a knot about Catholic parodies or jokes. I laughed out loud when I saw “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect UP?”

I forgot about this song. I love it.
I have a CD of Byzantine Monks chanting “Losing My Religion” I can laugh at myself and find humor in my Church.

“Oh, come on,” I said out-loud to the protesters calling in on the radio station, as I commuted to work. “Lighten up already.”
I saved my outrage for more important issues when Sinead O’Connor ripped up a picture of the pope. She’s just protesting. Every church has its problems. Civil disobedience is a good thing, even for the Church, especially for the Church. Did I mention I’m a Progressive Catholic?

Oh my, that was a really boring, political song. The song doesn’t even feature her wonderful voice. I forgot that part.
This morning’s paper made me exclaim out-loud, “Oh my gosh!”
In Chicago, I can visit a restaurant that offers The Ghost for $17.00. The Ghost is a specialty burger served on a pretzel bun with a portion of slowly braised goat shoulder and aged white cheddar cheese and chile aioli. Topping off The Ghost is a red wine reduction and an unconsecrated communion host. The Ghost (burger) is a tribute to a Swedish metal band, Ghost B.C.
“Oh my God,” said Loved-One.
Exactly.
Hey, I’ve had those wafers back since the nuns told me I’d taste blood if I chewed one. Trust me, a communion wafer is about as close to flavorless as a piece of cardboard. The only thing that wafer adds to the meal is…I’m not sure how to put it into words.
This is over-the-top. Offensive. No matter how delicious the burger is, it is tasteless. It’s kinda ugly looking, too.

What do you think? Am I too sensitive, or is this offensive?
