Here’s a bit of “Kawaii.” Awww.. Who doesn’t love a little kitten? And a whole passel of kitties. Awww… Just looking at cute things can help us feel more positive about each other and the little kitties surely warmed my heartstrings. June is National Adopt a Cat Month, so guess of course I picked kittens for a bit of Kawaii this month?
Something is in the air pushes me to focus on DELIGHT this year.
June is Pride Month. June because that’s when the Stonewall Riots took place in 1969. The Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969. The bar had a reputation for being friendly to the LGBT community.
June is a time for remembering those who paved the way for the LGBTQA community and who continue to do so. It’s a time for education and breaking down barriers, too.
As a reminder of what delight can do for us, here’s a bit of inspiration from NPR.
Here’s a few things that delighted me this week:
New friends: Last week I “attended” a writers’ conference. Every day, from 7 am until 10 pm I had the opportunity to learn and love so many writers. Two stood out to me. Larry and I connected over a comment he made about adding historical information like patina and forgetting about the heart behind why the story is important. Larry and I talked on the phone for almost an hour. Later in the week, he presented. What a wonderful connection.
Across the pond, in England, I met a soul mate as a group of us discussed inspirational books. Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. We both put our hands over our hearts and sighed. “The writing is like balm for the soul.” We nodded. I wrote so many names down, but I missed hers. I will forever feel connected to the young woman in England with a shelf full of books behind her.
The sound of rain: Here’s 18 seconds of calmness. Every once in a while, a bird tweeted her happiness. What a respite from many days of drought. I posted a photo from my balcony last week. This week, I added sound so I can better share this delight.
The sound of rain. What a delight.
Water Lilies: One, two, wait, there’s five gorgeous blooms. Look again. Frogs leaping from lily pad to lily pad. Beetles and wasps; flies and fish peeking out from underneath. And wait what happened here? A deer nibbled the lily pads, trimming them down to a perfect 1/3 of the surface cleared. What a delight!

Delightful lilies
The more I look for things that delight me, the more I seem delighted. There’s so much in the world that makes me smile.
I hope you find delight this week.
I know it makes me feel better to jot down a few things to remind myself how much delight I have in my life.
Almost 60% of those eligible in my state are now vaccinated.
That, and the Delta variant is climbing in dominance.
If you were hesitant, I hope you find reasons to put your fear aside in favor of protecting yourself and others. Some people are too young, others are immune-compromised or have other medical issues. Let’s be neighborly and protect those that can’t get vaccinated.
We’re in the final battles. At least in this country we’re making headway. Still, we have a ways to go for the world to get there.
I hope this week brings you delight upon delight.
Please share. Chances are you will delight me!
