I missed my poem yesterday.  A bad day for me.  Food poisoning?  Some intestinal bug?  Whatever, I only […]

It’s April and that means it’s National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWrMo.) And it’s Wednesday, the day I began […]

Okay, this picture shows I’m uncomfortable with this “Outfit of the Week” Project.  My fashion blogger friend, says she always takes faces out of the post.  I wonder if my face will start to look relaxed and comfortable as my project progresses.

DSC06154I really, really want spring and warmer weather to get here.  It’s not.  It’s

It’s late in the day. I failed to start the day writing my gratitudes.  Still, I did a […]

I’m not going to post an outfit everyday.  Holy smokes, I’m not that brave or that confident.  Heck, I probably don’t even have enough clothes for that.

Maybe there’s some room in fashion for an unconscious competent.  Someone who likes to get dressed and not think about it again.

Oh thank goodness for warmer weather.  After driving through the aftermath of snow in Kentucky, I am thankful for the great snow removal efforts we have here in Illinois.  We complain about cold and snow, and wish it got cleared and salted faster than it does, but our slow-down is nothing compared to Kentucky.  Anyways, the snow is almost gone there and here.  I know we have more cold weather on the way. Still, a respite is a blessing.

♥  New growth: Daffodils and crocuses are finally pushing through the soil.  Yay.

♥  Another history making event.

A long Road trip, a hundred new friends and support from afar fill me with gratitude. Wow, my […]

Here I am again, Monday. So many little things fill me with gratitude. Still, sometimes I feel like I must dig deep to remember.  Especially when I feel overwhelmed with deadlines. Soooo… In no particular order:

♣  It’s March.  Yes, it’s still cold.  I know the worst is over.  This week promises to get above freezing and rain. That means a lot of snow will be, well, going down the drain.

♣  I have deadlines. That means someone, two newspapers, in fact, like my writing enough to give me stories to write. I’m getting a steady income.  Yes!Restoration 4

valentine's day 4

Good thing the only thing riding on my predictions was my pride.  I was horrible. In my defense I was unable to see 33 of the nominees:  Birdman, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Two Days, One Night, Wild, Still Alice, Whiplash, Song of the Sea, The Tale of Kaguya, Unbroken, Mr. Turner, The Reaper, Joanna, Our Curse, White Earth, CITIZENFOUR, Finding Vivian Maier, The Salt of the Earth, Leviathan, Tangerines, Timbuktu, Wild Tales, The Bigger Picture, The Dam Keeper, Feast, Me and My Moulton, A Single Life,Aya, Boogaloo and Graham, Butter Lamp, Parvaneh, The Phone Call

So here’s the how the stats stack up:

I saw 15 of the movies nominated or about 39%

38 unique films got nominated for 25 awards

14 films won at least one award. 36% success rate.

I got 6 correct predictions:  24% success rate.

Of the films  I saw and that also won an award, but I failed to predict the correct winner, my record is a little better.  I saw 11 movies that won an award. My prediction was correct 5 times;  45% success.

Of those I haven’t seen, the only one I really, really want to see is Birdman. I’ll probably see CITIZENFOUR because it’s on TV this week. That’s a 6% success rate for “The Oscars,” as a way to drum up viewers.

(Last year I predicted about 50% of the winner, but I got to see a lot more of the films. )

I’m sleep deprived from watching the Oscars.  A dismal record of guessing the winners.  I thought I could watch and complete a little photography project.  Nope.  It’s still cold out. I mean really cold.  I’m up against two deadlines.  What is there to be thankful about, anyways?

A little self-talk and I’m on the way to turning that frown upside down.  (Blechk.  I sorta, kinda hate that saying.)
